Goldie Hawn reveals real reason why she never married Kurt Russell: Inside their 41-year love story

When it comes to Hollywood couples that defy the stereotype of short-lived relationships, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are often the first to come to mind. They have been together for many years and credit their lasting bond to the fact that they have never gotten married.

In a 2007 interview with Woman’s Day, Goldie said, “We have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted, and isn’t that what marriage is supposed to do?”

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first met in 1966 while filming *The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band*. At that time, there didn’t seem to be any chemistry between them, likely because Goldie was 21 and Kurt was still a teenager. After that movie, both of them went on to have very successful careers in Hollywood.

Goldie Hawn once said, “I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young.” After their first meeting, they lost touch, but when they met again years later, Goldie remembered how much she liked Kurt. In a 2017 interview with Conan O’Brien, Kurt Russell shared a funny story about his first encounter with Goldie Hawn after many years. He recalled, “I was really hungover and didn’t know Goldie well, just from working together years ago.” He was surprised by her appearance, saying, “She had a great body.” He quickly complimented her, saying, “Man, you’ve got a great figure.” Luckily, Goldie responded with a simple, “Why thank you,” and the conversation went smoothly.

At that time, Goldie Hawn had two children from her marriage to Bill Hudson: her son Oliver, born in 1976, and her daughter Kate, born in 1979. When Kurt and Goldie celebrated their 40th anniversary together, Kurt shared his thoughts with People magazine. He said, “For people like us, getting married wouldn’t change anything about our relationship.” He added, “I don’t know – 40 years isn’t enough to finally say, ‘Well, I guess…’”

Goldie said, “Our children have gotten married. Oliver is very happily married, and Wyatt is very happily married too. Kate got married once, but that didn’t work out. Now she’s with a wonderful person, and I’m not sure if she’ll marry again. The important thing is that we all tried marriage, and sometimes it just doesn’t work.

“It’s not just about getting married. It’s about the people and the relationship, and the commitment to stay together. That’s really important because if you want to make it work, you can. You have to make some sacrifices, but the joy and excitement of being together, like touching someone’s toes at night, is a really nice feeling.”

Today, Goldie and Kurt are not just proud parents of their children from previous relationships; they are also proud grandparents. They have six grandchildren and enjoy spending time with them and spoiling them. The couple often shares photos of their grandkids, showing just how much love they have for them.

Their grandchildren don’t call them grandma and grandpa but Gogo and Gogi, and we believe that’s very sweet and special.

Goldie’s children, Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson, both see Kurt Russell as a father figure and consider him a real dad.

“We’re very happy,” she said, sharing that she was expecting her third child at the time. “The child will have the name Hawn Russell. The kids are happy, and Kurt gave me a beautiful ring to symbolize our love.”

Goldie emphasized that owning a home or splitting things in half doesn’t matter much. “You have to move on and not get stuck on concepts, which can be broken easily. That’s why I think marriage is ridiculous.”

What’s special about Goldie and Kurt is that they always remind each other of their love. For her 60th birthday, Kurt organized a family trip to Tahiti. “It’s always so much fun when we all meet up. We are very close and see each other as often as we can,” Goldie said.

Goldie recently shared more about her relationship with Kurt Russell. In an interview with People, she mentioned that he often compliments her. She recalled a recent dinner when he looked at her and said, “You’re unbelievable. I cannot believe how beautiful you look.” Goldie appreciated his kind words, calling it a great combination.

Her daughter, actress Kate Hudson, admires their relationship and sees it as a goal to strive for. She told People, “You and Pa have been together for so long, and sometimes I look at it and think, ‘How do you guys do it?’ I’m still working on that.”

I don’t think there is a more beautiful love story in Hollywood than that of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
