Professor Brian Cox shut down the Flat Earth theory in best way possible with simple response
If you think the Earth is flat, you might want to keep that to yourself around Professor Brian Cox. He has no patience for such ideas.
Despite plenty of scientific evidence and photos from space showing Earth is round, some people still believe it’s a flat disk.
Flat Earth supporters have some unusual theories about our world and beyond to support their belief.
One of them is former boxer Carl Froch, who claims he’s “100 percent” sure the Earth is flat and says images showing its curvature look like cartoons.
He mentioned he’d believe the Earth is round when people like Richard Branson start offering chartered flights to space, allowing everyone to see the planet for themselves.
However, British TV’s most approachable scientist, Professor Brian Cox, has no sympathy for this view. He firmly dismissed the idea of a flat Earth.
A few years ago, while answering public questions about science, someone asked him about the Flat Earth theory.
Cox didn’t waste any time debunking it and effectively silenced Flat Earthers worldwide.
“There is absolutely no basis at all for thinking the world is flat. Nobody in human history, as far as I know, has thought the world was flat,” he said.
“The Greeks measured the radius of the Earth. I cannot conceive of a reason why anybody would think the world is flat.”
But that wasn’t all. Professor Brian Cox had more to say about the overwhelming evidence proving the Earth is not flat.
He said, “The very simple fact is we’ve taken pictures of it. I’m lost for words; it’s probably the most nonsensical suggestion a thinking human being could possibly make. It is drivel.”
It’s hard to imagine the usually friendly scientist so strongly debunking the flat Earth theory, but he did.
Some former Flat Earthers have said that seeing the evidence for themselves changed their minds. Those who believe the Earth is round are sometimes called “globeheads” by flat Earth supporters.
