Coworkers Rally Together to Buy a Car for Janitor who walks miles to work to his knees
At Farmington School in Germantown, Tennessee, something really nice happened. Robert Reed, who is sixty years old and works as a janitor there, got a big surprise from his coworkers. They collected $7,000 to buy him a new car, which made him cry tears of happiness. Let’s talk about how this wonderful thing happened.
Robert Reed is well-liked for being friendly and always ready to help others. He’s been working as a janitor at Farmington School. But there’s a problem – he didn’t have a car. So, getting to work and back home was hard for him. He had to walk a lot, take three buses, and then spend a long time cleaning the whole school.
The people at the school saw how hard Robert’s life was every day. So, they decided to help him out. They organized a way to get money for a truck to make it easier for Robert to get around.
Here’s what Robert had to go through every day: He finished his cleaning job at the school and then had to go back home. He walked two kilometers and took three buses, getting home sometimes as late as 7 p.m. Even though his routine was tough, his coworkers helped him by driving him to the bus stop before he kept going on his journey.
One of Robert’s teachers, Elizabeth Malone, started a fundraiser online to get money for a truck. She was really impressed by how hard Robert worked and wanted to help him out. They aimed to get $7,000.
Amazingly, in less than a day, they reached their goal of $7,000. People kept donating, and now they’ve collected over $50,000, which is way more than they expected.
On February 19th, Robert’s coworkers came together to tell him their plan and give him the money they raised. Robert was really touched and couldn’t stop crying when he found out how kind everyone had been to him. He felt really thankful for the chance to buy a truck that would make his life better every day.
With the money they collected, Robert bought his dream truck—a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in his favorite color, red. This new truck didn’t just help him get around, it also gave him new chances. He started a lawn service business, and local businesses gave him the tools he needed.
