Discover the Adorable Aardwolf: The Little-known “Wolf” You’ll Fall in Love With
Do you know what an aardwolf is? If not, get ready to learn about one of the cutest animals out there!
Aardwolves are wild animals that belong to the same family as hyenas, and they look quite similar. However, unlike hyenas, aardwolves eat termites instead of bones. Aardvarks also eat termites, and the word “aard” in both aardwolf and aardvark means “earth” in Dutch.
Aardwolves are charming animals native to East and Southern Africa. They usually live in underground burrows, often taking over abandoned homes of other animals. Shy by nature, aardwolves are nocturnal but switch their routine in winter to save energy, sleeping during the night and feeding during the day. They have long tongues that help them eat thousands of termites, with a single aardwolf consuming up to 300,000 termites each night! About the size of a fox, aardwolves are known for their lifelong loyalty to their mates. These delightful and cute creatures are worth seeing—just scroll down to learn more!
