The Incredible Rescue Story of Boo the Chicken: From Meat Factory to Loving Home

Boo is a unique rooster who enjoys traveling, playing the piano, watching TV, and spending time with other pets like cats and chickens. He’s a 5-year-old Cornish cross, and his favorite thing is snuggling with his human mom, Mary Bowman.

Boo didn’t have the best start in life. For his first six months, he lived on a farm with many other chickens but wasn’t treated very well. Instead of being seen as special, he was treated more like a product. The farmers overfed him, which is harmful for Cornish chickens like Boo, as they can’t regulate how much they eat.

Mary discovered Boo, a distinctive-looking chicken, through a Facebook group called “Vegans with Chickens.” A friend had spotted a Craigslist ad from someone looking to give Boo away due to his unusual appearance. Since Mary was familiar with Boo’s breed—having had a rooster named Julian who looked just like him—she decided to help. Sadly, Julian had recently passed away, so Mary felt it was the right time to take Boo in.

When Mary arrived to take Boo home, he was overweight and unable to move. He was struggling to breathe, and his comb had turned purple, which made Mary worried he might not survive. Thankfully, Boo pulled through and is still with us today.
