Kate Middleton’s ’embarrassing’ move during first meeting with Prince William: Inside their rocky relationship

William and Kate Middleton 'not as perfect as it seems': Inside their rocky relationship.

Being part of one of the most famous families in the world, it’s no surprise that the Prince and Princess of Wales attract a lot of public and media attention. Since the world learned they were dating, all eyes have been on them.

Despite how perfect their relationship may appear, they have had their ups and downs over the years. In a 2010 interview about their engagement, Kate Middleton recalled feeling her face turn “bright red” during their first meeting. In contrast, William struggled to remember that moment, saying he had to “wrack his brains.”

“I actually turned bright red when I met you and hurried away because I felt very shy,” Kate Middleton remembered.

“William wasn’t around for a lot of the initial time; he wasn’t there during Fresher’s Week, so it took a while for us to get to know each other.”

In the documentary *The Day Will and Kate Got Married*, which aired in April 2021, it was revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton started as good friends. Everything changed one night during a student fashion show when Kate wore a stunning sheer dress that caught the Prince’s attention.

“A switch had been flicked; he suddenly saw her in a different light. I believe that was the turning point in their relationship,” said royal correspondent Katie Nicholl in the documentary.

According to *The Telegraph*, Prince William shared, “We were friends for over a year first, and then it blossomed. We spent more time together, had a good laugh, and realized we shared the same interests.”

Their love was strong, and the media closely followed them. Kate even made a public appearance with the Royal Family at the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy, where William was present, along with her family.

And as everyone believed a royal marriage was just around the corner, the two split in 2007.

Looking back at their breakup, both Kate and William said it was actually helpful for them because it allowed them to “find themselves.” Kate mentioned that “you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger,” according to The Telegraph.

They got back together in 2008, and William proposed to Kate in 2010 during a trip to Kenya, using his late mother’s engagement ring.

Today, after having three children and spending many years together, William and Kate’s relationship is stronger than ever.

In 2021, royal expert Duncan Larcombe shared insights with OK! Magazine about how Prince William and Kate make time for each other and what their date nights are like.

“Kate and William’s relationship really grew while they were at St. Andrews University, where they enjoyed typical student activities and each other’s company,” Duncan said.

“While the loving grandparents take care of the kids, William and Kate can sneak away to the local pub for a night out, just the two of them,” the royal expert explained.

“I heard they did this to celebrate William’s birthday in June 2021. Another favorite activity for the couple is when William cooks bolognese for Kate, and they relax on the sofa watching TV. It brings back memories of their student days when they first met and their romance began,” the expert added.

Recently, the royals attended the wedding of the Prince of Jordan. Kate looked lovely in a pink dress by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, while the bride also wore a gown by the same designer. The newlyweds honored William’s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, by leaving the wedding in a 1984 Range Rover that was specially customized for the queen’s visit to Jordan in 1984.

The day seemed perfect, but one moment drew criticism when some people called William ‘rude.’ He greeted the bride, and when Kate took a moment to chat with her, William urged her to hurry by saying, “chop, chop.”

The author of *Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family* spoke to Fox and shared that the royal couple has days when they are “really, really cross with each other” and even days when they don’t talk at all.

Just like every other couple out there, William and Kate have their differences.

Royal author Tom Quinn told Express that the royal couple’s life isn’t as calm and perfect as it seems. He noted that William often behaves like his grandmother, while Kate is skilled at not complaining. Quinn explained, “Both of them follow the example of the late Queen, rarely complaining, and when they do, it’s always in a careful way.” He added that their marriage isn’t all “sweetness.”

Tom Quinn explained that while Kate and William may appear calm, it’s not always the case. He said the constant presence of palace aides adds stress to their lives, making it feel like a scene from a Jane Austen novel.

“Kate is definitely the calm one,” he noted. “William can be a bit hotheaded, which is mentioned in Harry’s book. But Kate stays level-headed and tries to keep things peaceful, saying, ‘Let’s not stir things up.’”

Since her cancer diagnosis, Kate has made only two major public appearances. She attended the Trooping of Colour, which celebrates the King’s official birthday, and the Wimbledon final, where the crowd gave her a standing ovation. It’s still unclear when she will return to her royal duties. However, it’s clear that she and Prince William are fully supporting each other. Their smiles at each other on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Colour showed their strong bond.
